A number of municipalities in Northumberland County will be receiving additional funding for transit as COVID-19 relief funds.
The additional funding is to help municipalities address the financial impacts on transit systems during the pandemic when ridership dropped up to 90 percent.
Northumberland-Peterborough MPP David Piccini has announced additional provincial funding for a number of communities in his riding, including $4,043 for Trent Hills, the town of Cramahe receives $3,541 and the town of Cobourg $82,629.
It is part of the Safe Restart Agreement funding to ensure local transit is safe, and it mitigates the cost of reduced ridership.
The additional $150 million in provincial funding means that there is a total of $650 million still available for municipalities up to December 31, 2021, with extensions to December 2022 granted on a case-by-case basis.
In addition, Ontario is calling on the federal government to match the additional funding announced by the province.
