Local officials are calling on the province for more funding for Long Term Care homes.
A report at the recent meeting of Hastings County Long Term Care committee emphasized the need for infrastructure capital as well as long term care plans.
Administrator Debbie Rollins pointed to the need for staff and more resources.
“The capital and infrastructure funding needs to be sustainable but there needs to be dollars funding provided to Long Term Care homes now to address the needs that we have going forward today with the infrastructure capital as well as long term plans. We’re all speaking the same and requesting the same from the government consistency and…for that will be what makes change come forward.” The Reviewe of Eastern Ontario Long-Term Care Facilities Commission on the issue has highlighted the need for infection control practitioners, which Rollins says the county homes already have.
“So some homes like ours have gone ahead and we’ve recruited for our positions. But the ongoing funding to support the needs for training and ensuring we have appropriate equipment resources to manage infections.”
Rollins says the changes Long Term Care has learned during COVID-19 will definitely have to be considered after the pandemic.
“Even once COVID is passed us, the changes that we have learned in Long Term care during this last year and a half will definitely be something we have to look at going forward.”
