Hastings Prince Edward Public Health says 1,483 people in its coverage area have received COVID-19 vaccines.
The health unit has begun a weekly vaccine update as it continues to support the province’s rollout of doses and says it will “continue to work with local hospitals, paramedics services and other health care providers to implement phase one and prepare for phase two.”
The doses given so far include first shots for all residents of HPE area long-term care and high risk retirement facilities, as well as the Tyendinaga Elders Lodge.
As phase one continues, the health unit says it will be continuing doses for other elderly and high-risk individuals, along with high-priority healthcare workers and adults who receive chronic home care, with those shots offered mostly through mobile clinics.
The health unit says second doses are based on the availability of the vaccine, but that the same high-risk groups will be targeted first.
As for other groups awaiting the vaccine, the health unit is asking everyone to be patient and continue following COVID-19 health measures, with each new group to be notified in advance of their shots being given.
