A Belleville woman’s puzzling world record attempt

It is one of the largest puzzles in the world, not only in overall size, but in pieces as well.

The Ravensburger Memorable Moments Puzzle of Disney has more than 40,000 pieces.

A 24-year old Belleville resident is looking to assemble it faster than anyone else.

Maxine Olive is a graduate of Centre Hastings Secondary and a native of Thomasburg. Olive now lives in Belleville, and says she is good at assembling puzzles, and enjoys it.

“When I saw it I said ahhh, I could prove how strangely good I am. It is very rare that I share that with other people, but every time someone comes over and I am doing a puzzle for fun they will say ahhh you are fast. I will say really?”

She says the Ravensburger puzzle is broken down into multiple puzzles.

“There is Bambi and Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White. They are all laid out in the order they were released. Each section is about four thousand pieces, and I am on my fourth section.”

Each of the 10 puzzles hooks together to create one giant puzzle.

Olive says she hopes to complete the puzzle in about 150 hours. She is on pace to finish it Saturday, as she is working about 16 hours a day.

The puzzle is 22 feet long by 6 feet wide (140 sq ft), weighs 44 pounds and costs about $700 Canadian. Olive says the current record is 380 hours by an American, which means she would not only surpass the current record, but crush it. The puzzle takes on average about 600 hours to complete (75 eight hour days).
