A detention centre for young offenders that’s operated for decades in Cobourg closed yesterday (Friday).
According to Today’s Northumberland the Brookside Youth Centre in east end Cobourg was closed due to it being underutilized.
There were only five male youths being housed there when it closed.
Local MPP David Piccini is quoted as saying the closure of the facility was simply good use of taxpayer money as it sits on about 70 acres of prime property that would interest developers and generate revenue for the community.
