A working carbon monoxide alarm is credited with preventing serious illness in residents of a Belleville home Saturday night.
Belleville Fire Department Fire Prevention Officer Dave MacMullen says firefighters were called out by residents on Airport Parkway just after 10 o’clock Saturday night after a carbon monoxide alarm went off in their house. There was also a smell of natural gas in the home.
Firefighters detected high levels of carbon monoxide in the basement and Enbridge Gas responded, discovering a leaking gas meter outside and an unsafe boiler in the basement.
MacMullen says the working carbon monoxide alarm prevented more serious issues and reminds people that alarms are mandatory near any home’s bedrooms.
