Lennox and Addington OPP say a report of a vehicle being driven the wrong way on Highway 401 led to several charges against a Kingston man.
Around 6:15 a.m. on Sunday, an off duty officer observed a vehicle travelling the wrong way on the eastbound Highway 401 off ramp at Camden East.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle however it evaded him and continued onto the highway.
A short distance later the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a fence on the south side of Highway 401 where the suspect fled on foot.
A subsequent investigation revealed that an individual had entered a residence on Sharpe Road by damaging a garage door.
An ATV side-by-side, as well as approximately $7000 in cash and clothing was stolen.
Around 7:30 a.m., officers stopped a side-by-side vehicle on Vent Road.
The driver fled on foot into a wooded area and was arrested after a short foot chase.
Police seized an ATV, a truck, approximately $8000 cash in Canadian currency and clothing.
Thirty-six-year-old Joshua Godfrey of Kingston faces several charges:
· Theft of Motor Vehicle
· Resist Police Officer
· Three Counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
· Three Counts of Mischief
· Theft Over $5000
· Four counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order
· Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
· Drive Wrong Way on Highway
· Drive While under Suspension
· Fail to remain at the scene of an accident
The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on February 8, 2021.
