Statistics Canada has confirmed what many people instinctively know to be true.
The Quinte region’s population is growing rapidly.
In the 12 months from July of 2019 to July of last year, population in the Belleville census metropolitan area (CMA) grew by
1.6%, tenth highest out of 35 CMAs.
The Oshawa area experienced the most population growth, at 2.1%.
Statscan’s analysis shows major cities like Toronto and Montreal are losing people to outlying areas because of costs and the ability to work remotely.
Since 2016 the Belleville CMA, which includes Belleville, Quinte West, Stirling-Rawdon, and Tyendinaga, has grown by 6,698 people, or about 5.2%.
