Quinte Health Care has been fortunate to not have to accept intensive care patients from COVID-19 hotspots such as the Greater Toronto Area because of overcrowding in hospitals there.
Instead, those patients have been transferred to so-called “hubs” or bigger regional hospitals such as Kingston General.
QHC Chief Nursing Officer Carol Smith-Romeril.
“Having said that, we’re all expected to be working as a system. If Kingston needs to send us patients for example then we’ll be on tap for that.”
In preparation for a COVID-19 surge causing patients from outside the area being transferred to Belleville General, extra beds have been reserved at Quinte Gardens Retirement Residence and at locations in Picton and Kingston.
