The long unused outdoor skating rink in Springbrook, north of the village of Stirling, won’t be seeing ice any time soon.
At its meeting Monday, Stirling-Rawdon council voted down councillor Sari Watson’s motion to make repairs and open the Springbrook rink within two weeks.
Stirling-Rawdon Mayor Bob Mullin says council was ready to spend up to $5,000 to upgrade the rink which hasn’t had any use for around 10 years but it turns out the cost was going to be much higher than that.
“The boards themselves are probably beyond the point that they could be used again. It (rink) just hasn’t stood up to time. The wood has gotten too brittle to work with and that particular material as far as I know is no longer available.”
A delegation from Springbrook is expected to make proposals regarding the outdoor rink at a parks and recreation meeting near the end of the month.
