Some paramedics in Northumberland will have a unique look as they continue to deal with calls in the community in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Starting this week Northumberland Paramedics will have access to Powered Air Purified Respirators when they respond to 911 calls, which are essentially enclosed helmets with clear visors in the front, that help to limit airborne particles with the use of a built-in HEPA filter.
Along with being safer to use, the new gear will also reduce the paramedic service’s reliance on disposable PPE, which can be hard to come by and is more harmful to the environment.
The equipment is being bought with money that Northumberland County was given from Ontario’s Safe Restart Funding Program last year.
