Food banks are listed as an essential service during the pandemic, although how clients receive their food has changed.
Gleaners Food Bank Director of Operations Suzanne Quinlan tells Quinte News that safety is top of mind, but so is helping the vulnerable, seniors, and those with disabilities.
“You can go to the website, www.gleanersfoodbank.ca to register, you can call, and there is delivery for seniors and the disabled. If there is a single mother with five kids and no vehicle, we will deliver to her.”
With COVID protocols in place, staff at the food bank are seeing an increase in demand, and volunteers unable to assist at this time.
Quinlan is encouraging clients to schedule a pick-up time, which will save them time in line, and help encourage social distancing on site.
She also wanted to thank the community for how generous they have been towards Gleaners and the Tri-County Warehouse, which support residents in Belleville, Picton, Wellington, Deseronto, Stirling-Rawdon, Marmora and Lake, and Northbrook.
