Former E.D of Habitat for Humanity discusses departure from the organization

The former Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward Hastings is firing back after reports he was “terminated” from his position.

Glenn May-Anderson spoke to Quinte News regarding his departure, after a statement from Board Vice-Chair Heather Jackson.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM BOARD VICE-CHAIR HEATHER JACKSON

“After a thorough investigation involving the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward-Hastings, our board of directors has proceeded with termination of Mr. May-Anderson. The investigation was managed by a sub-set of the board, led by myself as Vice-Chair. Ongoing operations of Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward-Hastings will not be impacted. We have an able staff on hand to manage the day to day operations. Board Chair Jill Raycroft will lead the organization in the interim, supported by our local Habitat’s and our national organization Habitat for Humanity Canada.”

Previous reports indicated allegations of “misconduct”.

BELOW IS MAY-ANDERSON’S STATEMENT

“First off, I am disappointed

by the conduct of the board, regarding my departure from the organization. There is a confidentiality within the organization in regards to employer/employee relations, and our Code of Conduct. I am going to adhere to them. I am not going to speak to any of the items that have been published in the media, by members of the board. Playing this out in the media takes the focus away from the important mission of Habitat for Humanity.

“During my time as Executive Director, I brought concerns to the board about several prior instances of mismanagement at Habitat Prince Edward-Hastings that have occurred over the past decade. I will be bringing these concerns to the attention of Habitat for Humanity Canada.”

“Certain members of the board and I had fundamentally different visions for the future of Habitat Prince Edward Hastings and what the affiliate could do to have a greater impact on the affordable housing crisis.”

May Anderson did not go into much detail on his departure from the organization.

“I was presented with an opportunity in early December that I considered and then accepted. I wish Habitat Prince Edward-Hastings well as they move forward during these difficult times.”

He added that he was warned about taking the job in the first place.

“Prior to accepting the position at Habitat I had been warned by previous employees and other people in our community not to accept the position of Executive Director. I should have heeded that advice.”

Neither Jackson nor May-Anderson provided insight into what the allegations of misconduct were.
