The Belleville Senators have “opted-in” to the American Hockey League’s shortened 2021 season.
Due to pandemic-related restrictions, the B-Sens will play in an all-Canadian division with the Toronto Marlies, Laval Rocket and Manitoba Moose, but where they will play is still up in the air, as those teams await government approval to play in their home provinces.
There have been reports that the B-Sens could play their home games out of the Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata, sharing that arena with the parent club Ottawa Senators.
The AHL is aiming to start the season on February 5, but a schedule framework has yet to be released.
South of the border, the pandemic has forced four teams to relocate.
The Binghamton Devils (New Jersey) will play in Newark, New Jersey, the Ontario Reign (LA) will play out of El Segundo, California, the Providence Bruins (Boston) will play out of Marlborough, Massachusetts and the San Diego Gulls (Anaheim) will play out of Irvine, California.
Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Admirals, Charlotte Checkers and Springfield Thunderbirds have elected to opt out of the coming season and will resume play in 2021-22.
