Tomorrow marks the start of a brand new year and the Chief of Staff for Quinte Health Care has a couple of priorities top of mind.
Dr. Colin MacPherson says priority one is to deal with what could be major problems for hospitals if the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic gets out of control.
Local hospitals are already at or near capacity so all eyes are on the COVID-19 stats and everyone is urging people to not gather together over the holidays.
Dr. MacPherson says after the pandemic eases priority two will be for QHC management to sit back and take stock of what they’ve learned over the past challenging months.
“Because I think as a system there will be a lot of learning to be taken away and a lot of opportunities as well.”
One change in medical care at QHC hospitals forced by the pandemic was the use of virtual care where patients were consulted without having to attend a hospital and Dr. MacPherson says that practice has been successful and will continue in the future.
