The MP for Bay of Quinte says, as we head into 2021 and hopefully towards the end of the pandemic, the COVID-19 crisis will still be the top priority for the Federal Government in the months ahead.
Neil Ellis spoke to Quinte News about his expectations and priorities for the year to come and says the vaccine roll out program is the biggest key in getting through the pandemic and back to normal.
“The positive side is vaccines are now being shipped and administered. We do have the most diversified portfolio of vaccines in the world, so we’re going to come out of this on the other side and 2021 is hopefully going to be a better year.”
Ellis says once people are vaccinated safely, the Federal Government will be able to turn its attention to some other issues that have come to light during the pandemic.
“A rapid housing initiative, which many people in the riding are looking at to build affordable housing and a universal broadband fund, since COVID-19 showed us how important high-speed internet access is for people working from home. We originally announced $1 billion for that program and then about a month ago we increased that to another $1.75 billion, recognizing that we need to act swiftly to connect all Canadians.”
Ellis called 2020 “a trying year for everybody”, but says “it shows the good side of our community”.
He went on to thank everyone in the riding in advance for their continued hard work in controlling the pandemic, which will aid the recovery as we continue into 2021.
