COVID-19 has hit every sector of life, and businesses were especially vulnerable.
As we continue to look back at 2020, we check in with the Executive Director of the Quinte West Chamber of Commerce.
Chamber Manager Suzanne Andrews says certain sectors have done better than others.
“The thing is with this pandemic is that is has not affected all businesses the same. Sometimes it is not necessarily the size of the business, but the type of sector that they are in. Here in Quinte West most of our larger businesses and larger employers are manufacturers and they seem to have done pretty good through this. “
She adds that retail, and hospitality have seen the same expenses, but nowhere near the same revenue.
She added that there were challenges in the supply chain, while in manufacturing the main difficulty remained with qualified workers in the sector.
One positive that Andrews noted was that local residents have focused on assisting local businesses during the troubled times in the past year.
