Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison says while COVID-19 may have presented its challenges in 2020, the community rallied and is emerging stronger.
“You know, because we are the community we are, and the people that we have here, we’ve been able to handle a difficult situation positively.”
He says he really appreciates how the residents have listened to the public health directives and only recently has the community seen an increase in cases locally.
The year wasn’t just about the pandemic though the mayor notes.
He told Quinte News there were some positive things that happened throughout the year too.
Harrison says they added a number of new vehicles to their fleet, began improvement work on city boat launches and began work on a major water infrastructure upgrade.
“We’ve had a number of projects in Quinte West completed, we’ve completed our last one which is the waste water line across the river, is almost finished.”
He says city staff and residents responded well to the pressure placed upon them over this past year and they have done a great job.
