The mayor of Tweed has issued an update on the municipality’s plans when Ontario enters its four-week lockdown on Boxing Day.
Mayor Jo-Anne Albert declared a state of emergency on Monday afternoon and says that will last for the duration of the lockdown.
Albert is encouraging residents to stay home as much as possible, leaving only for work, school, to purchase groceries, or to care for vulnerable people in the community.
The municipal office will be closed until the lockdown is lifted, but two staff members will be available to answer the phones, with payments being accepted through the town hall drop box, mail, or electronic payment.
Public works staff will be limited to winter maintenance duties and the fire department will only be responding to 911 calls.
The Tweed arena will be closed and the waste disposal site will be open, except for Boxing Day.
