The Wooler Scout Hall, a former school whose history goes back 170 years, could be in line to become a “heritage property” in the City of Quinte West.
Quinte West’s Planning Advisory Committee is recommending council designate the Wooler Scout Hall as a “listed” property which will serve to protect the building from being demolished while the municipality closely studies its history in order to decide its heritage and cultural value.
An architectural expert has said the hall is of “great architectural significance, being a rare example of an exceptional quality Prairie School in Canada.”
In 1850 a loghouse school was built on the property to be replaced in 1870 and again with a larger building in 1915.
