A Brighton couple has received an absolute discharge on theft charges.
An absolute discharge is the lowest-level sentence an offender can get and means there’s been a finding of guilt but no conviction is registered and the matter is considered closed.
Northumberland OPP began an investigation into allegations of theft over $5,000 from a volunteer organization in Brighton in 2018 and in January of last year laid charges against Ricky and Suzanne Chapman who were both 50 at the time of the charges.
On November 16, in a courtroom in Cobourg, the Chapmans were given an absolute discharge.
