Nicole Scardino has been found not guilty of manslaughter and dangerous driving causing death, in the 2018 death of Sam Andrews, in the driveway of a West Street home.
A 12-person jury handed down its verdict just after 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening, less than 12 hours after receiving instructions from Justice Robert Scott.
Scardino, now 47, was first charged with second degree murder after the incident in June of 2018 when Andrews was hit by Scardino’s car, following an argument between the pair. But those charges were lessened to manslaughter last year.
The jury heard witness testimony over the course of a three week trial and closing arguments were given on Thursday.
The Crown argued that Scardino intended to at least hurt Andrews when she drove towards him, even if she didn’t mean to kill him, while the defence made the case that Andrews’ death was nothing more than a tragic accident.
