The Belleville Sports Hall of Fame had to cancel this year’s induction ceremonies due to COVID-19 however they have made another important announcement.
The Belleville McDonald’s Restaurants High School Athletes of the Year named Kari Read from Centennial Secondary School as the winner of Female Athlete of the Year. Kari was Centennial’s athlete of the year all four years she has attended the school. Read was involved in rugby, volleyball, track and field, badminton and soccer. She was also an enthusiastic participant in school and community activities such as Grade 8 orientation, Relay for Life, and Charger Hoops Basketball.
Mathew Berry of Eastside Secondary was named the Male Athlete every year at that school and wins the McDonald’s honour. Berry received MVP awards in football, rugby and basketball.
Mathew’s coaches said he brings 150% effort to every sport he plays. He is a vocal leader and a model student, who volunteered with Quinte Little Hoops, and BellevilleMinor Football.
