Two deputations appeared at Belleville’s Planning committee this week objecting to a move by a local business that they say will increase transport trailer activity in their residential area.
Business owner Catherine Whitley has applied for a change from residential to commercial for a 390 square metre parcel of residential land on Frank Street.
This would be added to her business at 161 College Street.
Frank Street resident William Smith told the committee his biggest concern is whether or not the space will be used for picnic tables as indicated or to add to transport traffic at the business.
“Or will we see it become parking spaces with tractor trailers? That’s our biggest concern. And then is it going to stay a green space or is it going to be paved?”
Linda Seeley opposed the application. She pointed to “how quickly residential property is dwindling” in the city. “We have already witnessed massive transport trucks turning around in that property.”
The Planning Committee has called for a staff report on the issue.
