Three members of the Quinte West emergency services community were recognized for their acts of heroism during a recent fire.
Fire Chief John Whelan was first on scene to a call in the Sunny Creek Estates, near 8 Wing Trenton on November 16 and attempted to enter a home where a man was trapped inside.
Whelan was joined by Fire Captain Perry Holland and OPP Constable Dan Charland, with the trio able to get into the home and pull the man to safety.
Both the man and Chief Whelan were taken to Trenton Memorial Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
In recognizing them during Monday’s council meeting, Mayor Jim Harrison said the trio “went above and beyond to help save a life and we’re very proud of you”.
