The Director of Education for the Hastings Prince Edward School Board says the decision to close C.M.L. Snider School was made as a “preventative measure, based on our commitment to safety for all students, families and staff”.
Sean Monteith released a letter on Thursday night after the Wellington elementary school was closed indefinitely due to a positive COVID-19 that he says affects “a student in one class”.
Monteith says “the class cohort, as well as several staff who were in the classroom may be required to self isolate” and that contact tracing of affected staff and students will continue for the next 24 hours, with anyone who is a close or high-risk contact being contacted.
He added that due to a higher number of staff absences the board believes there “won’t be enough staff available for clases to continue safely and maintain the separation of cohorts”.
The board plans to share more information on the weekend, including what to expect next week.
