Members of the Peterborough County and Northumberland Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an incident on Albert Street East in the village of Hastings, west of Campbellford, at approximately 7:00 p.m. Sunday night.
The complainant reported that they had been following a possible impaired driver from Highway 7 to Hastings.
The vehicles were at a stop sign when the complainant exited their vehicle and attempted to speak with the suspect.
The suspect struck the complainant with their vehicle while attempting to flee.
The suspect was blocked from leaving by members of the public that witnessed the incident and was arrested upon police arrival.
The suspect was found to be under the influence of alcohol.
The complainant was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Nicholas Saltern (age 26) of Ennismore, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired-alcohol
· Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration-80 plus
· Dangerous operation
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on January 14, 2021.
