Council in Prince Edward County is letting their support for the local conservation authority be known.
Councillors voted unanimously on Tuesday night during their regular council meeting to repeal schedule 6 of the provincial budget (Bill 229).
Councillor Janice Maynard says in the motion the legislation introduces a number of changes and new sections that could remove and/or significantly hinder the conservation authority’s role in regulating development, permitting appeal process, and engaging in review and appeal of planning applications.
The motion asks the provincial government to respect the current conservation authority/municipal relationships and continue to work with conservation authorities to find workable solutions to reduce red tape and create conditions for growth.
