Sunday could be considered a strange day for a big move but it turned out to be the best time for a genuinely big move.
An older brick bungalow was lifted from its foundation on Sidney Street near Bell Boulevard in Belleville and transported slowly, a short distance to the south, where it will be placed on a new foundation. After upgrades are complete, a family will move in, making it the fifth family to receive a home from Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward Hastings this year.
The other four are on Leopold Street in Trenton.
Chair of Habitat Jill Raycroft said the project couldn’t have happened without the donation of the house and labour from Geertsma Homes, and the donation of property by the City of Belleville.
Low rise apartment buildings are to be built on the land where the house was originally by Geertsma Homes.
The house was moved by Pollard the Mover, House and Building Mover.
