Don’t be surprised if your power is out this morning. Around 10,000 homes and businesses are without electricity throughout the Quinte region due to continuing high winds that started yesterday afternoon.
Firefighters and Hydro One crews are still busy dealing with snapped hydro poles and fallen trees but they were especially busy during the evening hours yesterday (Sunday) when wind gusts hit maximum strength.
Quinte West Fire Chief John Whalen says his department received 32 calls for service in just 90 minutes during one part of the evening.
“… largest call volume was on County Road 64 with a half a kilometre of hydro poles down and on Aikins Road at Hamilton Road in that area with trees on homes.”
Four homes in Quinte West were hit by falling trees last night. No one was injured.
Fire crews from five of seven Quinte West fire halls were called into action overnight and in Prince Edward County firefighters from eight of ten halls were involved in dealing with wind damage.
