Just hours prior to Remembrance Day in Air Force City, Trenton Legion made a moving presentation to a group of local residents, committed to fighting COVID-19.
At the Cenotaph, with a Colour Guard in the background, Branch 110 President Al Plume accepted a cheque for $6,590 from the Poppy Print Mask Fundraiser, spearheaded by Helen Paquet and her husband Jacques.
Many hundreds of masks were made, and Paquet says the community response was incredible.
Paquet is also part of a group called “Supporting Health Care Workers Fight vs Covid-19”. One of the groups leaders, Sharon Urquart, was honoured at the ceremony for having made over 5,651 masks since the pandemic began.
Branch 110 President Al Plume read aloud a letter from Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis honoring Urquhart.
Urquhart says she was overwhelmed by the kind words and tribute.
The “Supporting Health Care Workers Fight vs Covid-19” group is projecting about $20,000 will also be donated to the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation by the end of 2020, through the sale of masks.
Additionally, the group has donated 25,000 masks for free to members of the community.
