Only one bid has been submitted to be the City of Belleville’s next integrity commissioner.
Council decided to terminate the contract of its previous IC, Cunningham Swan on August 10 and the city has been in the process of hiring a replacement who would independently review things like code of conduct, conflicts of interest and give advice to council or local boards.
The only bid received so far was from Robert J. Swayze at an annual retainer of $1,000 and a $280 hourly rate.
Swayze has previously provided Integrity Commissioner services to more than 40 municipalities and is currently filling that role for the County of Prince Edward.
He has also been working with Belleville in the interim, since August.
In 2019, Belleville spent $43,952 on Integrity Commissioner services, almost $19,000 more than what was budgeted.
So far this year, council has spent just over $19,000 of the $45,000 budgeted for those services.
Council will vote on the hiring of Swayze at its meeting on Monday.
