Like many other municipalities, officials in Prince Edward County are urging residents to make alternative plans to mark Remembrance Day this year.
The County says the usual public ceremonies in Picton, Wellington and Consecon won’t take place this year due to COVID-19 and pandemic-related restrictions that are in place.
Mayor Steve Ferguson says “it’s important to keep the sacrifices of Canadian veterans in our thoughts on November 11, even though we cannot gather for services at our local cenotaphs”,noting that wreaths will be placed at local cenotaphs in advance of Remembrance Day.
Residents are being advised to mark the day by tuning into services via local television and radio, buying a poppy and visiting cenotaphs to pay respects outside of the typical busy Remembrance Day periods.
