On October 30, 2020 at approximately 12:00 a.m., officers of the Lennox and Addington County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a reported threat involving a weapon in Amherstview.
The investigation revealed that an individual in a vehicle on Murray Place had been threatened with a handgun.
Officers from the L&A County OPP, OPP Emergency Response Team, OPP Tactics and Rescue, OPP Canine and L&A County Crime unit participated in the investigation, resulting in an arrest and the seizure of an airsoft replica handgun.
Ryan Vanhooser, age 27, of Loyalist Township has been charged under the Criminal Code with:
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose,
- Utter Threats,
- Pointing a Firearm, and;
- Assault.
The accused is further charged with driving while under suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused was held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on October 30, 2020
