The province is taking another step forward in their mandate to end hallway health care.
Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith announced the provincial government is providing Quinte Health Care with $2.8 million to fund up to 29 additional transitional care beds and enhance Intensive Care Unit capacity.
The beds will be allocated across the four QHC hospitals based on those with greatest need.
The funding will also allow the ICU at Belleville General Hospital to expand from 17 to 18 beds and upgrade three existing ICU beds to Level 3, meaning they include the ability to ventilate.
QHC President and CEO Mary Clare Egberts says this funding is an acknowledgement the Ontario government is focused on supporting the health care needs of the communities QHC serves.
This $2.8 million is part of the government’s $116.5 million investment to create 766 more beds at 32 hospitals and alternative health facilities.
These beds are in addition to the initial $234.5 million investment for 139 critical care beds and up to 1,349 hospital beds included in the fall preparedness plan.
