The COVID-19 pandemic has cost many people and organizations a lot of money and the City of Belleville is no exception.
On Monday, city council will be asked to approve an application to the Ontario government for more financial support to cover costs incurred due to the pandemic.
Belleville has already received $2.8 million, not including public transit, under Phase 1 of a provincial funding program but it’s estimated that amount won’t be nearly enough to cover its losses as just $1.9 million was budgeted for.
Shorelines Casino has been shut down for months and the city expects to lose $2.7 million in casino revenue and Elexicon Energy is deferring its usual annual dividend payments to the city.
