The firefighters union in Quinte West has made its largest charitable donation ever, deciding to back the Hospice Quinte Heart and Home Campaign.
The Quinte West Professional Firefighters Association has donated $10,000 to Hospice Quinte saying it is proud to help out in the community.
A release from President Jay Coxwell notes that firefighters have an increased risk of different types of cancer due to the smoke and hazardous chemicals they are exposed to and that the building of the facility is “near and dear” to the 16-member union’s hearts.
Hospice Quinte has raised about 65% of the $9.5 million needed to build and start operations of the six-bed facility.
