It’s now official – Loyalist College has a pandemic plan that will allow international students on campus once more.
Loyalist College, which has campuses in Belleville, Bancroft and Toronto has had its COVID-19 readiness plan for the international students approved by the federal and provincial governments, and local public health officials.
International students have been off campus since the COVID-19 lockdown in March.
Loyalist President Ann Marie Vaughan says the college will help students with their quarantine plans and provide assistance with everything they need during this time.
Vaughan adds, “Loyalist students travelling to Canada can rest assured knowing the caring supports are in place for them to to begin their successful academic journey.”
President Vaughan tells Quinte News, “We currently have about 40 students that are in remote learning for the Belleville campus. We also have students that are remote learning for our Toronto campus who will also be governed under this quarantine protocol. Some of them may choose to come if they have approval , however, they can do up to 50% of their program in their home country. So just because they have the option now to come doesn’t mean that they will.”
“They may elect to complete 50% of their program online in remote and then come to Loyalist or Toronto once that is finished or they may elect to come now.”
Loyalist’s COVID-19 readiness plan outlines how the College will manage the mandatory supervised 14-day quarantine period for international students, including arranging transportation to the quarantine location and helping them get the items they need for their quarantine, such as food, medications and health insurance.
The College’s detailed plan outlines how the College protects the health and safety of all students and the surrounding community, as it has done since the beginning of the pandemic.
The college statement adds:
Government of Canada travel restriction changes will allow more international students who wish to travel to Canada for the purpose of continuing and/or pursuing their studies, to enter the country. Asymptomatic international students may travel to Canada if they meet the following requirements:
- They must be in possession of a valid study permit or letter of introduction
- They must be attending a designated learning institution (DLI) with a Government-approved COVID-19 readiness plan
