If you’re wondering about that questionable information on the internet, a skills training session during Media Literacy Week might be what you need.
Community Learning Alternatives in Belleville has announced it will run a new interactive Media Literacy Skills course next week.
Instructor Jamie Hosking tells Quinte News it’s important to pause for a moment when you’re about to pass a news story or some other information on to your friends, and to make sure that it’s accurate and up-to-date.
In this online course, learners will discover how to authenticate information and verify online stories.
He points out that, “Learners will also look at how we get news and information about health and science topics, types of misinformation that are particularly common in those subjects, and steps we can take to determine how reliable a source or claim is.”
“We’ll be going through lots of different lessons, material, using lots of examples, lots of questions, and hopefully answers. Really just a way to take a look at a higher level of thinking when we’re looking at all the different sources of information that we see online.”
The 90-minute virtual courses will run at 10 a.m. Monday to Thursday during Media Literacy Week, that’s next week.
