Brighton council has accepted a consultant’s detailed report showing that the community could sustain a new 60-room hotel in the community.
Mayor of Brighton Brian Ostrander says the hotel feasability study is a tool to show developers and hotel chains the potential for growth that Brighton has.
Council’s preferred location for a hotel is on land along Elizabeth Street near the No Frills store.
“..because that’s currently a green field, vacant, and land that’s already been designated as a commercial opportunity in our Official Plan and it’s
serviceable land unlike properties near the 401.”
The consultant’s report also suggested a hotel could be suitable along Highway 401 at Brighton and somewhere near the waterfront.
The report showed demand for hotel accommodation would be steadily growing over the next several years in the wider Quinte region.
