“Quinte Ballet enhances our quality of place. Symphony. The Empire Theatre. The Glanmore. Our galleries. Just to name a few. They make Belleville a destination city.”
Jarrell says “cultural tourism is one of the fastest growing segments of the global tourism industry” and enhances quality of life.
She noted that work will soon start on a new overall plan for arts in the region.
“There is going to be that demand so the key for us is to survive. So my message to you and your members is to stand by because there’s light at the end of the tunnel.”
Councillor Pat Culhane said, “Arts are essential.”
“Arts are essential. Culture is essential to our community. To all communties. And what you’re doing to sustain and develop. Marvellous.”
Councillor Sean Kelly commended the role of the Quinte Arts Council, “Anyone who brings culture to the city. Artists struggle to make a living. The average salary is $25,000 a year.”
