Staff at Gleaners Food Bank are asking the community to be very aware as there is a scam in the community involving their organization.
Sarah Kring, Public Relations and Fundraising Coordinator told Quinte News there are people going door to door saying they are selling chocolate bars on behalf of the food bank.
“Our food drive is cancelled. We are not going door to door, we are not selling chocolate items or any other kind of items and if these people have somebody at their door to let us know. Yeah, it’s unfortunate.”
So far the food bank has received multiple calls, social media messages and emails questioning the validity of the chocolate sales.
Kring is also recommending people don’t give them any monetary donations either.
She says to her knowledge, these people falsely were last selling in east end Belleville.
Kring says the Belleville Police have been notified and if you have any information, you should contact them as well as the food bank.
