Councillors in Prince Edward County have been asked to take another long hard look at an expansion of Quinte’s Isle Campark expansion.
Resident and graduate program director and associate professor at Ryerson University in the School of Urban and Regional Planning, Nina-Marie Lister made a deputation during Thursday’s regular committee of the whole virtual meeting asking for more peer reviews and community input before making a decision.
She felt the studies previously done were not robust and concerns from citizens have not been addressed by council or staff.
The proposed expansion involves 337 park model trailers.
The Friends of South Shore say they’ve presented all kinds of material to the county but have received no response and haven’t been treated fairly.
Councillor Bill Roberts said those around the horseshoe all strive to make decisions based on facts and evidence and that they are on the same team.
He says there were at least four firms enrolled in peer reviews and he was under the impression the expansion conforms to the new Official Plan, even if it is only in draft stage.
Lister said she wants council to do their due diligence and that includes community engagement.
She told councillors that area is part of the rural fabric that makes this community what it is and it can’t be turned into an urban settlement.
County council could vote on approving the project as early as next month.
