It isn’t called the “silent killer” for nothing.
It may have been lucky that a small child fell, hitting its head which prompted a 911 call yesterday morning (Monday).
Quinte West firefighters and Hastings-Quinte paramedics responded to the home in the Oak Hills area.
Once inside they found three children and two adults all suffering from flu-like symptoms and firefighters’ carbon monoxide alarms went off as they entered and discovered lethal levels of CO in the house.
The family were taken to Belleville General Hospital for treatment.

“We like to tell people to have their furnace inspected once a year by a certified technician, especially at this time of year. And the occupants had just turned it (furnace) on for the first time.”
By law every home must have at least one working carbon monoxide detector installed.
