Belleville police responded to calls for a man with a gun October 7, 2020.
Officers arrived at a west end parking lot at noon where callers said the man took out the firearm during an argument with another man then fled. After investigating further, police executed a search warrant at an east end residence two days later and seized an imitation firearm.
Forty-one-year-old James David Smith of Belleville was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
He will appear in court November 12.
