Despite a pivot to fall from the usual summer event, the organizers of the Belleville General Hospital Foundation’s annual golf tournament are deeming it a huge success.
The Fairways for Fractures Fall Classic at Black Bear Ridge on Thursday raised close to $50,000 for upgrades to the fracture clinic at BGH.
Foundation Executive Director Steve Cook tells Quinte News even though they had to do things a bit differently this year, the event was extremely well attended and went off without a hitch.
“I think it’s been a great day to be honest, with lots of good feedback from the golfers and everyone that’s been here. Obviously we’ve had good weather, it’s been an amazing effort from the team in the midst of a pandemic and it’s absolutely amazing to raise $50,000 net on the day as well.”
He added that money raised helps to get the foundation and the hospital another big step closer to their almost $500,000 goal to make those fracture clinic upgrades a reality.
“Obviously it’s tough times, but health care is front of mind. I think for something like the fracture clinic, where it’s been a long time coming and they clearly need the space and expansion, this total takes us about a third of the way through to that overall project goal.”
There’s no firm timeline on when those upgrades will be made, with Cook saying an application will have to go to the Ministry of Health as the process moves forward.
He says the Foundation will continue to work with Quinte Health Care leadership to help get them to that goal.
