A sentence has been handed down to a man who drove a truck into the side of a Belleville apartment building in July of last year.
Paul Baumhour who pleaded guilty to charges of criminal negligence causing bodily harm and dangerous driving earlier this week, was sentenced in Belleville Court Friday to three years of prison time, with credit for time served, plus a three year driving ban and a five year weapons ban, along with a DNA order.
While he was originally charged with more serious offences including attempted murder, Crown Attorney Lee Burgess says the plea deal was accepted because it may have been difficult to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Baumhour had the intent to kill.
Baumhour was arrested in July of 2019 after a transport truck crashed into an apartment building on Union Street, leading to minor injuries for one woman and the evacuation of several apartments.
