Green parking lot
The new playground, recently built in Belleville’s Stanley Park, is soon going a little greener.
The parking lot for the playground will be built with an Ecoraster permeable paving system.
Monday night, city council decided to sign an agreement with Quinte Conservation Authority to install the system that would let water seep into the ground instead of running off.
It is considered environmentally friendly.
The parking lot would cost about $100,000.
After the playground equipment installation there is $60,000 remaining in the city’s project budget.
Quinte Conservation has committed $20,000 and applied for an additional $20,000 as its contribution.
Belleville’s treasurer’s report
Belleville’s Director of Finance reported to city council Monday night that capital spending in recent years has had a significant impact on the city’s financial results
Carol Hinze pointed to the increase in tangible capital investment as well as long term debt.
In her report to council, Hinze said despite these pressures many financial indicators are improving, including the overall liabilities, revenue and surplus.
Council approved transferring just over $767,000 dollars to various reserve funds from capital projects.
