Stirling-Rawdon council is considering some changes to how it runs its local election next time around.
Earlier this week council voted to ask staff to prepare a report on the pros and cons of removing the ward system and whether a Deputy-Mayor’s position should be part of council.
As well, Mayor Bob Mullin says it’s high time people in Stirling-Rawdon could vote from their homes via the internet.
“Stirling-Rawdon was the only municipality in Hastings County last election that did not use internet voting. We were hours getting
everything counted! There’s no need for that.”
With regards to the two ward system now in place, Mullin says now is the perfect time to study whether it would be better to remove the wards as the community’s population is now split 50-50 between urban residents and those in the rural area.
The next municipal election will be held in 2022.
