Road work approved
Council in Prince Edward County have approved almost $900,000 worth of road work in the municipality.
Councillors awarded a contract to Miller Paving Limited on Tuesday night during their regular meeting to micro surface a number of roads this year. Work includes County Road 5 Elmbrook Road to Potter Road, County Road 7 Loyalist Parkway to County Road 25, County Road 22 County Road 10 to Kinglsey Road and County Road 33 Rosehall to Hillier at a cost of $898,936.
Tanya Redden, Construction Supervisor told council the work is on the schedule for this season subject to what the temperature is.
There were two bids for the full project and Miller Paving was the low bidder at $1.3 million, prompting County staff to drop County Road 5 Picton Town Limits to County Road 6, County Road 5 County Road 6 to Elmbrook Road and County Road 17 from the project list.
These locations will be deferred to a future surface maintenance plan because they were in the best condition of the roads according to staff.
Operating Deficit
Council in Prince Edward County has dealt with the 2019 operating deficit.
A motion from staff was approved on Tuesday night during their regular council meeting at Highline Hall to fund the deficit from the Tax Rate Stabilization Reserve.
The operating deficit was $244,902.
